1977-38 Urging The United States Department Of Commerce To Take Proper note And Revaluate The Impact That The Licensing Of Foreign Processor Ships Will Have On The Employment, Tax Base And Economy Of Alaskan Communities.A RESOLUTION URGING THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF
COMMERCE TO TAKE PROPER NOTE AND REVALUATE THE IMPACT THAT THE
LICENSING OF FOREIGN PROCESSOR SHIPS WILL HAVE ON THE EMPLOYME IT,
TAXBASE AND ECONOMY OF ALASKAN COMMUNITIES.
WHEREAS, the United States Congress has passed legisla-
tion imposing a 200 mile limit on foreign fishing, and
WHEREAS, the Fishing Conservation and Management Act .f
1976 is devoted to increasing the utilization of fisheries wit' in
the said 200 mile limit, and
WHEREAS, shore based processors are spending vast sum of
monies to expand their processing and freezer plants to accomo•ate
bottom fish processing, and
WHEREAS, said shorebased processing plants provide jo.s
taxbase, fish tax and play a vital part in the economy of loca
communities, and
WHEREAS, foreign processors will not provide jobs to
American citizens, pay taxes or contribute to local economy,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly of the Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska to strongly
urge that the United States Department of Commerce take proper
note and revaluate the impact that the licensing of foreign
processor ships will have on the employment, taxbase, and economy
of Alaskan communities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly of Kodiak Island, Alaska, implores its legislative
delegation to exert itself in support of American interest and
the free enterprise system that America stands for.
