WHEREAS, the Assembly members of Kodiak Island Boroug
have determined that it is in the best interest of Kodiak Isl.n
Borough to adopt and implement a Zoning Official title within
the Planning Department,
BE IT RESOLVED that the position description for the
Zoning Official within the Planning Department be as follows:
DISTINGUISHING FACTORS
The employee occupying the position of this class is
responsible for obtaining compliance with the zoning code wit in
the City and Borough. Work involves resolving infractions of
the zoning ordinance pertaining to land utilization, subdivis on
plats, mobile home parks, site plans, and related code requir:-
ments. Work also involves reviewing plans, checking codes,
issuing permits and performing field inspections to insure that
construction complies with plot planning and signing specific -
tions. The employee works with considerable independence in he
field and office, receiving assignments from City and Borough
Officials or from the public. Work is performed under the
general administrative direction of the Planning Director, an is
reviewed for the successful and timely resolution of complain s.
TYPICAL WORK FUNCTIONS
Checks plot plans for proposed construction, reviews
applicable codes, and issues zoning permits.
Checks construction in progress for compliance with codes
pertaining to structural, plot planning, and signing requirem:nts.
Attends City Council and Borough Assembly meeting to
present background information and recommendations concerning
zoning changes.

Investigates allegations of infractions of zoning
ordinance; interviews alleged violator to collect facts; writes
reports of findings; enforces provisions of applicable codes.
Performs related work as required.
APPLICANT PREREQUISITES
GENERAL INDICATORS - MINIMUM
Three years of experience involving the design or con-
struction of buildings and installation of utility support
systems, surveying and plot plans or, substituting on a month
for month basis, post -high school coursework or gaining in civil
technology, real- estate development, or inspection for up to =2
months of the required experience.
SPECIAL INDICATORS - MINIMUM
Knowledge of the methods used in building siting and
construction and of stages of construction when possible defects
and violations may most easily be detected and corrected.
Some knowledge of the zoning, building, plumbing, and
electrical codes and ordinances.
Ability to interpret the zoning ordinance and prepare
recommendations on a variety of problems related to enforcement.
Ability to read construction specifications, plot plars
and blueprints and to recognize deviations from such plans in the
site development process.
Ability to prepare accurate and concise reports and to
present data in an effective manner, orally and in writing.
Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, firm and
courteous manner.
COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION shall be referred to the Citizen
Advisory Committee for Personnel Policy.
