A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR A NEW WATER SYSTEM IN OLD HAROBR,
AND APPROVAL TO APPLY FOR DISCRETIONARY FUNDING UNDER THE
HUD COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the loss of the Sonya processing vessel in OId
Harbor has left the City without a source of employment and,
WHEREAS, more than eighty percent of household heads of
OId Harbor are unemployed, and,
WHEREAS, the fifty -one (51) units of existing housing need
rehabi I itation,
WHEREAS, the existing water system does not meet State water
drinking regulations, and,
WHEREAS, an industrial water supply adequate to supply sea -food
processors and provide fire protection will expedite the location of a new
seafood processor in OId Harbor,
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough is entitled to apply for
discretionary funding under the HUD Community Development Program,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly does hereby resolve that the Planning Department prepare and
submit a preliminary application for funding of the proposed Old Harbor
industrial water supply.
