A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH REQUESTING EXTENSION OF THE ANTON LARSEN BAY ROAD TO
ICE FREE WATER
WHEREAS, the City of Kodiak is recognized and
designated as the cultural, social and economic center of
the Kodiak Island Borough and the areas westward thereof, an
WHEREAS, the citizens of Ouzinkie and Port Lions
Port Bailey and residents of the sawmill on Afognak depend
on the services and facilities of the City of Kodiak for the
basic necessities of life, and
WHEREAS, during the winter months and throughout
the year the trip by boat from these villages lying on the
north side of Kodiak Island is hazardous, expensive and
unfeasible for varying periods of time, and
WHEREAS, the extension of this road to ice free
water has been a high priority for the community for several
years, and such priority has been established in the updatin
of the Overall Economic Development Plan, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Highways has also list °d
this extension in their five -year plan,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak
Island Borough Assembly go on record as strongly urging the
State Division of Highways to maintain and extend the Anton
Larsen Bay Road on a year -round basis. This extension shou d
be accepted as part of the State Highway secondary system at
is a much needed link of communication. The Assembly furthe
urges that funds be designated for this construction within he
next construction period.
