Project Description and Local Share Identification
Please provide the following information for your FY 98 Municipal Capital Matching
Grant Project.
1. GRANTEE NAME:
KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
2. PROJECT TITLE:
PETERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITION
3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION (Describe what this project will do for your city. Describe its
purpose, stages, financing and when you expect the project to be complete.)
Peterson Elementary School, designed for 300 students, has exceeded its
capacity for several years. All specialized spaces must now be used as
regu /ar classrooms and increasing enrollment is expected to continue,
placing further demands on the facility and producing unacceptably large
class sizes. The U.S. Cast Guard is building 140 additional housing units
adjacent to the school. This increased population will increase the
school enrollment significantly.
Emphasis for FY 97 will be completion of design with construction
scheduled for FY98 and finished in FY99. Hence, a second Capital Matbhing
Grant for construction will be requested toward the total $900,000
anticipated for this project.
4. LOCAL SHARE (Identify and explain the sources of the local share - if cash, where the funds
come from, funding from non -state sources, in -kind contributions, etc.)
Kodiak Island Borough cash will be used from interest earnings and
general fund revenues to match and complete this project.
