A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE FISCAL YEAR 1997
KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT BUDGET
AND DETERMINING THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF FUNDS TO BE MADE
AVAILABLE FROM LOCAL SOURCES

WHEREAS, Alaska Statutes 14.14.060 specifies that the borough school board shall
submit the school budget for the following school year to the borough
assembly by April 1 for approval; and
WHEREAS, within thirty days after receipt of the budget, the assembly shall
determine the amount of money to be made available from local sources
for school purposes and shall furnish the school board with a statement
of the sum to be made available; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough School District did on April 1, 1996 approve
the fiscal year 1997 budget in the amount of $21,440,583 and transmit
this to the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the budget requests that a total of $4,045,000 and additional in -kind
services be appropriated from local sources;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT:
Section 1: The Assembly approves the fiscal year 1997 Kodiak Island Borough
School District budget in the amount of $21,390,583 based on the
projected fiscal year 1997 funding by the State of Alaska, and hereby
authorizes funds appropriated in the Kodiak Island Borough fiscal year
1997 budget for the fiscal year 1997 Kodiak Island Borough School
District budget as follows:

Section 2: The Borough staff is hereby instructed to notify the School District of
this action and take all steps necessary to ensure that the local

appropriation is included in the fiscal year 1997 Kodiak Island Borough
budget.
Section 3: A task force is hereby established to analyze the Tong -term funding
options for a sustainable local contribution to the school district for the
next five years and beyond.
