1995-38 Supporting the State of Alaska State Waters Cod Fishing Program.i
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska opened a State Waters Groundfish Pot, Mechanical Jig,
and Hand - trolled Gurney Cod Fishery Program around Kodiak Island; and
WHEREAS, there have been more than 70,000 pounds of the two million pound quota
delivered; and
WHEREAS, this fishery opens a new small boat fishing opportunity for Alaskan
fishermen which helps build coastal community economies; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest Alaska Municipal Conference holds economic development
of the Southwest region as its top priority;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT the State of Alaska is urged to continue the development of the State
Waters Groundfish Pot, Mechanical Jig, and Hand - trolled Gurney Cod Fishery Program
in the Southwest Alaska Municipal Conference region on a permanent basis.
