A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE REAUTHORIZATION OF THE COASTAL
ZONE MANAGEMENT ACT (CZMA)
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough has been actively involved in coastal
management planning, at both the local and State levels for fifteen (15) years; and
WHEREAS, in those fifteen years a significant amount of funding has been made
available to the Borough for coastal development and resource planning, including
over 5250,000 in the last five (5) years alone; and
WHEREAS, these planning funds have been available to address important, local
development issues, as well as for basic land use and resource planning in the remote
areas of the Borough; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Coastal Management Program (ACMP) provides the Kodiak
Island Borough with a significant role in the review and approval process for State
and federal projects and permitting; notably, off -shore oil and gas lease sales, oil spill
prevention and contingency plans, and wetlands development; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Coastal Management Program also provides an opportunity
for local government to be actively involved in diverse State and federal coastal
development projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT the Kodiak Island Borough endorses the reauthorization of the
federal Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA).

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH THAT copies of this resolution be sent to the Governor of Alaska
and the Alaska Congressional Delegation.
