1995-14 Supporting Funding for the Kodiak Arts Council.A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ALASKA STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Arts Council is a necessity to residents to provide arts and
entertainment and arts education to all residents of all ages on Kodiak Island; and
WHEREAS, the loss of funds to the State Arts Council would result in loss of federal
funds up to $675,000 to the state and loss of funds to the Kodiak Arts Council; and
WHEREAS, loss of state funding would result in a reduction of art programs present
to the public and opportunities for residents of all ages to learn technical and
theatrical skills and have creative outlets; and
WHEREAS, arts in our community involve many ethnic groups who come together
to learn different cultures; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Arts Council sponsors many events such as the Summer Fine
Arts Children Program and the International Cultural Festival and is the support group
for many other local arts organizations such as Visual Arts League, Russian Balalaika
Players, Community Band, Community Choir, Youth Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra,
Russian Dancers, Potters' Guild, and Community Theater;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT the Governor and the Alaska State Legislators are urged to maintain
funding for the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
