1995-13 Urging Full Funding for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.A RESOLUTION URGING THE ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE TO FULLY
FUND THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME
WHEREAS, the management of Alaska's fisheries is the one bright spot for economic
growth and development in Alaska in the face of declining state revenues; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game actually generates more
revenue for the state than is spent by the Department; and
WHEREAS, field and research staff have already taken serious reductions in recent
years, leaving a staff that cannot adequately manage the fisheries or conduct the
necessary research to ensure sound management; and
WHEREAS, further cuts will only increase the risk of a loss of fisheries for Alaska
resulting in additional revenue declines which will only increase the funding crisis for
the state; and
WHEREAS, Alaska should be investing additional resources to increase the
productivity and ensure the long term sustainability of the fisheries;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT the Alaska State Legislature is urged to grant full funding to the
Alaska Department of Fish and Game and ensure the continued development of
maximum sustainable economic growth for Alaska.
