A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF THE
ALASKA CHALLENGER LEARNING CENTER
ON THE UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA KODIAK COLLEGE CAMPUS
WHEREAS, the Alaska Aerospace Development Corporation (AADC) was created to
develop aerospace related economic and technical opportunities for the
State of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the AADC is working to develop a comprehensive low -earth orbit launch
complex and full- service satellite ground station facilities on Kodiak
Island as well as ground station facilities in Fairbanks; and
WHEREAS, the AADC is the sponsor of the Alaska Challenger Learning Center that
is an educational endeavor that offers learning styles technology, teacher
training programs, motivational presentations in the sciences and
technology, and instructional resources that act as a catalyst in math
and science education; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak College Advisory Board has offered to make land available on
the Kodiak College Campus to construct the Challenger Learning Center;
and
WHEREAS, many benefits and educational opportunities would result in the
Challenger Learning Center being located in the same community as the
orbital launch complex;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT: The Alaska Aerospace Development Corporation is urged to accept
the offer of the Kodiak College Advisory Board and build the Challenger Learning
Center on the Kodiak College Campus.
