1994-38 Urging the Southwest Municipal Conference and All Communities to Support the Lawsuit Against Individual Fishing Quotas.KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 94-38 Introduced by: Assembly Requested by: Assembly Drafted by: Clerk & Community Development Director Introduced: 11/03/94 Adopted: 11/03/94 A RESOLUTION URGING THE SOUTHWEST ALASKA MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE AND ALL COMMUNITIES TO SUPPORT THE LAWSUIT AGAINST INDIVIDUAL FISHING QUOTAS WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly believes that Individual Fishing Quotas (IFQs) will lead to corporate- ownership of the North Pacific fishing industry; and WHEREAS, this will have an adverse impact on tax bases and community structures; and WHEREAS, IFQs would result in financial loss to both the public and private sectors of the economy; and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough has contributed 530,000.00 to support the lawsuit against IFQs; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH THAT the Southwest Alaska Municipal Conference, concerned communities, and individuals financially support the lawsuit against Individual Fishing Quotas.
