OF A LOCAL KODIAK RESIDENT
TO THE COUNCIL ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT

WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Assembly of the Kodiak Island
Borough that a vacancy exists for a public member seat on the Council
on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault within the State of Alaska,
Department of Public Safety; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough is concerned with stopping the problem of
domestic violence and sexual assault, particularly in rural Alaska, and is
also concerned with assisting the victims of domestic violence and
sexual assault; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly has been informed that the Alaska
Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault has submitted the
names of three individuals to Governor Walter J. Rickel for his
consideration in filling the vacant seat described; and
WHEREAS, one individual whose name has been submitted for Governor Hickel's
consideration is a ten year resident of Kodiak, Alaska, with extensive
experience in the prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault as
well as a history of advocacy for victims of child abuse, and is also a
representative of the multi- ethnic population of rural Alaska;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT:
Section 1: The Assembly supports the appointment by Governor Walter J. Hickel
of a rural Alaskan representative from Kodiak, Alaska, to the Council on
Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.
