A RESOLUTION URGING GOVERNOR HICKEL TO APPOINT A KODIAK
REPRESENTATIVE TO THE ALASKA BOARD OF FISH
WHEREAS, the Kodiak fishing industry has had representation on the Board of Fish
for many years; and
WHEREAS, Kodiak represents one of the most diverse fishing ports in the state and
the nation where multiple gear groups and multiple fisheries for different
species all come together in one community, and where the interaction
of the gear groups is a necessity; and
WHEREAS, the regulations adopted by the Board of Fish must be cognizant of the
necessary interaction of the various fisheries in order to enhance and
protect all of the abundant resource in the Gulf of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, a Kodiak representative would have the most -first hand knowledge of the
necessary interaction of the regulations for all species, more so than a
representative from any other area; and
WHEREAS, Kodiak representatives have always been key players on the decision -
making process of the Board of Fish; and
WHEREAS, in order to have a well balanced and highly productive Board of Fish, a
Kodiak representative is a real necessity;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT:
Section 1:
Governor Hickel is urged to appoint a Kodiak representative to the Board
of Fish to continue the best interests of the fishing industry and the
various fish species in the Gulf of Alaska and throughout the State of
Alaska.
