RESOLUTION NO. 91-06
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD
TO CONTINUE THEIR EFFORTS REGARDING
MOORAGE OF VESSELS IN WOMENS BAY
WHEREAS, Womens Bay residents have registered complaints for some time about the
conditions of the waters of Womens Bay; and
WHEREAS, the number of derelict vessels moored and apparently abandoned is
increasing; and
WHEREAS, sinking of vessels abandoned in Womens Bay creates serious hazards to
navigation and pollution; and
WHEREAS, there is currently a vessel which has been moored at Shannon Point for
almost a year; and
WHEREAS, Womens Bay provides recreation opportunities for all Kodiak residents and
tourists, sport and subsistence fishing and clamming, as well as commercial
fishing for export; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly is concerned about the presence of
these vessels and how they may impact the quality of the environment in
Womens Bay;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH THAT:
The United States Coast Guard is urged to continue in their efforts to
resolve the problems stated above regarding the moorage of vessels in Womens Bay.
