RESOLUTION NO. 90-69
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING SUBMISSION OF A PROPOSAL FOR
A SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANNING GRANT
WHEREAS, HB 478, enacted by the Legislature in 1990,
makes available Community Solid Waste Management Planning Grants
for creating or updating community solid waste management plans;
and
WHEREAS, The Kodiak Island Borough is concerned about the
problems associated with current solid and hazardous waste
management practices; and
WHEREAS, this grant program will provide funding for
evaluation of the current solid waste management system and plan
for future solid waste management needs so the community can
establish a system for long-term management of solid waste; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough supports the solid
waste management practices as stated in AS 46.06.021, in their
order of priority:
(1) Waste Source Reduction
(2) Recycling of Waste
(3) Waste Treatment
(4) Waste Disposal
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly supports submission of a proposal to the State of
Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation for a Solid Waste
Management Planning Grant.
