1990-62 Ratifying and Confirming the Results of the Regular Election Held October 2, 1990.Introduced by: KIB Assembly Recommended by: Borough Clerk Date: 10/18/90 Adopted: 10/18/90 KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 90-62 A RESOLUTION RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING THE RESULTS OF THE REGULAR ELECTION HELD OCTOBER 2, 1990 WHEREAS, pursuant to law, the Kodiak Island Borough held a Regular Election on October 2, 1990, at which time candidates for the following offices to be filled were voted on: Borough Assembly (3) . . . . . . . . . . 3 -year terms Borough Assembly (2) . . . . . . . . . . 1 -year terms School Board (2) . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 -year terms Service District #1 Advisory Board (3) . . . . . . . . . . . 3 -year terms Fire District #1 Advisory Board (2) . . . . . . . . . . . 3 -year terms i Monashka Bay Service District Advisory Board (1) . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 -year term Womens Bay Service District Advisory Board (3) . . . . . . . . . . . 3 -year terms Bay View Service District Advisory Board (1) . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 -year term and the following question: Proposition No. 1 "Shall the Kodiak Island Borough adopt sales tax powers and levy a sales tax equal to one percent (1%) of sales, rents and on services provided in the borough to be used for the operation of the Kodiak Island Borough School District?" NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly: THAT the Assembly finds that the Regular Election of October 2, 1990, was validly held and hereby ratifies and declares the results of the election to be as follows: Resolution No. 90-62 Page 1 of 4 THAT for the positions of Borough Assembly for three three-year terms, the following votes were cast: SUZANNE HANCOCK received 1256 votes; JACK McFARLAND received 1197 votes; BETTY FITZJEARL received 907; JOHN BURT received 716 votes; BOB SHUTTLESWORTH received 685 votes; and there were 9 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that SUZANNE HANCOCK, JACK MCFARLAND and BETTY FITZJEARL have been elected for three-year terms. THAT for the position of Borough Assembly for two one- year terms, the following votes were cast: GORDON GOULD received 907 votes; MIKE MILLIGAN received 505 votes; SUSAN HAMILTON received 503 votes; BRYCE GORDON received 448 votes; VIC ALGOSO received 416 votes; JOE LLANOS received 264 votes; PAUL FINZER received 218 votes; and there were 7 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that GORDON GOULD and MIKE MILLIGAN have been elected for one-year seats. THAT for the position of School Board Member for three- year terms the following votes were cast: DAVID HERRNSTEEN received 1212 votes; BILL OLIVER received 1074 votes; GAIL HAYNES received 881 votes; and, there were 15 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that DAVE HERRNSTEEN and BILL OLIVER have been elected for three-year seats. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Members for the Bayview Road Service Area for one three-year term the following votes were cast: RICK HOLZSHU received 4 write-in votes and there were 9 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that RICK HOLZSHU has been elected for a three-year seat. Resolution No. 90-62 Page 2 of 4 THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Monashka Bay Service Area for one three-year term the following votes were cast: LOU DOCHTERMAN received 6 write-in votes; and, there were 11 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that LOU DOCHTERMAN has been elected for three-year seat. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Womens Bay Service Area for three three-year terms the following votes were cast: JAMES "BUTCH" FITZJEARL received 97 votes; TOM TROSVIG received 14 write-in votes; DALE STARKOVICH received 8 write-in votes; WILLIAM FARLING and CHARLES BARBER each received 7 write-in votes; and, there were 25 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that JAMES "BUTCH" FITZJEARL, TOM TROSVIG and DALE STARKOVICH have been elected for three-year seats. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Fire Protection District No. 1 for two three-year terms the following votes were cast: SCOTT ARNDT received 301 votes; CHARLES LORENSON received 355 write-in votes; and, there were 23 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that SCOTT ARNDT and CHARLES LORENSON have been elected for three-year seats. THAT for the position of Advisory Board Member for the Service District No. 1 for three three-year terms the following votes were cast: EARL SMITH received 16 votes; ANDREW NAULT received 17 votes; CHARLES LORENSON received 15 votes; and, there were 78 miscellaneous write-in votes cast, THEREFORE, it is declared that EARL SMITH, ANDREW NAULT and CHARLES LORENSON have been elected for three-year seats. Resolution No. 90-62 Page 3 of 4 THAT Proposition No. 1 on the question of the adoption of sales tax powers and levying a sales tax equal to 1% received 993 YES votes and 1183 NO votes, THEREFORE, Proposition No. 1 is defeated.
