KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
RESOLUTION NO. 90-25
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING CONTINUED FUNDING
FOR THE ALASKA LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly is the
elected governing body of the Kodiak Island Borough; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly is £emiliar
with the problems encountered by low-income individuals; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak office of Alaska Legal Services
Corporation provides representation to that often under -represented
portion of the population; and
WHEREAS, the City of Kodiak, Kodiak Island Borough, State
of Alaska, and the Federal Government each contribute to the cost
of funding the Kodiak office of the Alaska Legal Services
Corporation; and
WHEREAS, the members of the private bar provide a measure
of services to low-income on a pro bono basis but could not be
expected to serve the legal needs of the entire low-income
population on a no -fee basis; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly recognizes
the valuable contribution made to the administration of justice by
the Kodiak office of the Alaska Legal Services Corporation;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly that state and federal funding authorities be
urged to appropriate, at the minimum, the current level of funding
to assure that this level of service to the low-income population
can be maintained.
