KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
RESOLUTION NO. 90-14
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE
FOR THE ALYESKA OIL TERMINAL
WHEREAS, the EXXON Valdez oil spill has demonstrated the
tenuous balance between the transportation of hazardous materials
and the environment; and
WHEREAS, all of the communities on the Gulf of Alaska
share the benefits and the liability of a coastal environment; and
WHEREAS, the Alyeska Regional Citizens Advisory Committee
has been established to provide locally -appointed input into the
oil spill contingency, vessel traffic, and terminal environmental
operation and planning; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough recognizes the need
to participate in regional advisory boards and has established a
Kodiak Island Emergency Services Council to coordinate disaster
planning and response;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly desires to be represented on the Alyeska Regional
Citizens Advisory Committee and designates the Kodiak Emergency
Services Council to coordinate its participation.
