RESOLUTION NO. 90-07
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING IMMEDIATE ABATEMENT OF
ASBESTOS AT KITOI BAY HATCHERY
WHEREAS, the Kitoi Bay Hatchery was built in 1965 and
insulated with amenosite asbestos; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska Department of Labor OSHA has
fined the Department of Fish and Game $1,900 for violation of the
presence of this asbestos; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough has adopted health
powers and is responsible for the health of its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska has supported the borough
in the abatement of asbestos in school buildings;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly requests the state to take immediate steps to
abate the asbestos from the Kitoi Bay Hatchery to protect the
employees and public at the hatchery site.
