1988-72 Opposing Ballot Proposition #3 - the Community College Initiative.A RESOLUTION OPPOSING BALLOT PROPOSITION 03 -
THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE INITIATIVE
WHEREAS, the Kodiak College Council unanimously supported the
restructuring of the University of Alaska in 1987; and
WHEREAS, results of the restructuring are:
1. cuts made at the administrative level;
2. no classes eliminated;
3. no faculty laid off;
4. no education services curtailed;
5. no programs reduced; and
WHEREAS, under restructuring Kodiak College has:
1. maintained its mission statement to meet the needs of the
'community;
2. maintained local budget input;
3. continued authority over and approval of lower division
and special interest courses;
4. a local College Council and will have a representative on
the new University of Alaska Anchorage Council;
5. offered upper division and graduate level courses;
6, transfer of credit capabilities within the system;
7. accredited under the University of Alaska Anchorage;
and
WHEREAS, separating the community colleges from the university system
would be taking a step backwards and would be fiscally irresponsible;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly urges the voters of Kodiak Island to vote "NO" to ballot
proposition 83 in the upcoming General Election, November 8.
