RESOLUTION NO. 88 -66 -R
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING FULL FUNDING FOR CONSTRUCTION
OF THE FISHERY' INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY CENTER BUILDINGS
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska derives its greatest benefit from its
fisheries resources when those resources are processed onshore in Alaska;
and
WHEREAS, Alaskan shorebased processors must compete on the
world market and against product processed at sea; and
WHEREAS, the quality of the fish delivered to shorebased plants
must also be competitive; and
WHEREAS, research designed to improve efficiency, profitability and
handling in fish processing and harvesting as well as new product
development will benefit all of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the State of Alaska to support
and promote its fishing industries; and
WHEREAS, the Fishery Industrial Technology Center was created by
the legislature to assist the Alaskan fishing industry; and
WHEREAS, the Fishery Industrial Technology Center currently lacks
a facility; and
WHEREAS, the existence of a facility would promote research and
financial involvement of equipment suppliers and processors; and
WHEREAS, piecemeal funding of the facility is neither efficient nor
economical;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly supports full funding for the Fishery Industrial Technology Center
facility.
