1988-09 Urging the State of Alaska to Provide Funding for Education.A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY URGING THE STATE
OF ALASKA TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR EDUCATION.
WHEREAS, fluctuating oil rsrenue s have left state agencies and local
governments in an uncertain funding position; and
WHEREAS. school districts and local governments in the state have
shared in that frustration; and
WHEREAS, contracts for teachers are approved prior to the end of the
legislative session; and
WHEREAS. local g nts aril required by State Statute to establish
their funding level for education prior to the end of the legislative session;
and
WHEREAS, program planning needs to occur as soon as you ibl•; and
WHEREAS, the legislature has previously provided forward funding and 1
Kodiak Island Borough Assembly and School District Board of Education have
appreciated that effort; and
WHEREAS, the p legislation forces municipal governments to
decide on local appropriations for educational funding prior to the state
setting the foundation support.
NOW, THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly urges the Alaska Legislature and Governor Cowper to adopt legislation
which provides for forward funding of education.
