RESOLUTION NO. 83 -33 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY REQUESTING THE
ASSIGNMENT OF ADDITIONAL ALASKA STATE TROOPERS TO THE BOROUGH.
WHEREAS, two Forums on Crime and Criminal Justice were held in
Kodiak on March 2 and 23, 1983 and attended by representatives of all agencies
associated with law enforcement and criminal justice in the Kodiak Island
Borough; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska State Troopers in Kodiak provide services
for approximately 6,841 persons in the Kodiak Island Borough with only seven
(7) commissioned officers and calls and requests for assistance are diverted
to the City of Kodiak Police Department on weekends and from eight to fifteen
hours a day the rest of the week; and
WHEREAS, the consensus of those attending the Forums was that
two additional Alaska State Troopers are required to provide a more adequate
level of law enforcement in the Borough.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly that Governor William Sheffield and the State Legislature are
requested to permanently assign two additional Alaska State Troopers in
the Borough.
