KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
RESOLUTION NO. 82 -70 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING IMPROVED
MAIL DELIVERY SERVICE IN KODIAK.
WHEREAS, Kodiak is currently experiencing impeded mail delivery
service due to poor planning and use of an inadequate number of boxes at the
present Post Office as the primary method of delivery, and
WHEREAS, the City of Kodiak meets or exceeds all of the criteria for
establishment of hone delivery mail service as prescribed in the Domestic Mail
Manual COMM), and
WHEREAS, home delivery mail service would alleviate severe traffic,
safety and pedestrian congestion currently experienced at the Post Office by
area residents, and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that mail traffic to the Island is infre-
quently precluded by inclement weather, and
WHEREAS a star route has been provided for rural areas of Kodiak but
at this point the City of Kodiak continues to be disqualified from hone delivery
service and /or adequate post office boxes, and
WHEREAS, there is considerable interest and public support for home
delivery service or expanded box capacity at the existing Post Office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
requests the U. S. Postal System to establish an expanded box service and /or
provide home delivery service for the residents of Kodiak.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the
following and that the Assembly respectfully
requests assistance in quickly
resolving this matter in a satisfactory manner:
