1982-64 Authorizing Acquisition Of Land For A Bulk Fuel Facility In Karluk.1
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH AUTHORIZING ACQUISITION OF
'LAND FOR A BULK FUEL FACILITY IN KARLUK.
WHEREAS, in the spring of 1981 the Karluk I.R.A. Council applied for
and was awarded a bulk fuel storage facility grant in the amount of $60,000 from
the Division of Local Government Assistance, and
WHEREAS, the Village Council selected a site for the proposed facility
awned by the Alaska Packers Association, and

WHEREAS, Alaska Packers Association, Inc. was sold and its land holdings
ithroughout Alaska are now surplus real estate held by DMC Properties, Inc. a
( subsidiary of Del Monte Corporation, and
WHEREAS, DMC Properties, Inc. has indicated that it is not prepared
'to address the sale of land to the Village of Karluk at this time, and
WHEREAS, it is a matter of record that the residents of Karluk have
been severely impacted by the lack of a suitable bulk fuel facility, and
WHEREAS, protracted delays in procuring suitable land upon which to
place the bulk fuel facility threatens the viability of the grant project which
would be the key factor in correcting the problem, and
WHEREAS, the impasse gives every indication of continuing indefinitely.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Borough Manager is authorized
to take whatever steps are necessary to acquire by grant, purchase or condemnation
;approximately one acre of U. S. Survey 162 which would be required for a suitable
Karluk bulk fuel storage facility site.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all costs associated with the purchase or
condemnation of the bulk fuel site including but not limited to appraisals, legal
fees, surveys or land consultants fees shall be reimbursed by the Village of
;Karluk through the bulk fuel storage facility grant provided by the Division of
