RESOLUTION NO. 82 -46 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY URGING THE APPOINT-
MENT OF JEFF STEPHAN TO THE NORTH PACIFIC FISHERY MANAGEMENT COUNCIL.
WHEREAS, Governor Jay S. Hammond selected Jeff Stephan as one of the
three nominees for a seat on the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council
(NPFMC), and
WHEREAS, Jeff Stephan, business manager of Kodiak's United Fisherman
Marketing Association, has been a member of the Advisory Panel to the NPFMC for
three years, has attended almost all Alaska Board of Fish meetings and most
Kodiak Fish and Game advisory board meetings during the same three years, making
id W him well versed on the various fishery matters, and
WHEREAS, Kodiak, the number one United States fishing port in 1981,
has been unrepresented on the NPFMC during the past two years, and
WHEREAS, only two of the present eleven members on the council are
fishermen or industry representatives, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stephan has been instrumental in the formation of the
Regional Salmon Planning Team and has demonstrated a concern for the conservation
of the fishery resource.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough urges
Secretary of Commerce Malcolm Baldrige to appoint Jeff Stephan to the North
; Pacific Fishery Management Council.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded to
