1980-29 Expressing Non-Objection To Discontinuance Of The PAR (Precision Approach Radar) Portion Of The GCA (Ground Control Approach) At The State Airport.,
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY EXPRESSING NON -
OBJECTION TO DISCONTINUANCE OF THE PAR (PRECISION APPROACH RADAR) PORTION OF
THE GCA (GROUND CONTROL APPROACH) AT THE STATE AIRPORT.
WHEREAS, the cost of operating the Ground Control Approach (GCA) at
the Kodiak Island State Airport exceeds Two Hundred Thousand ($200,000.00)
Dollars per annum, and
WHEREAS, the equipment itself is obsolete and replacement of inoper-
able components are difficult to obtain, and
WHEREAS, the PAR (Precision Approach Radar) portion of the GCA has
been replaced by the Instrument Landing System (ILS) now in operation and used
by all major airlines, and
WHEREAS, the ASR can be a safety factor in the operation of many
small aircraft in Kodiak, and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough expresses no objection to dis-
continuance of the PAR portion of the GCA, and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the ASR be retained as a safety
factor and the Brite Radar Scope be installed in the Control Tower, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the time of construction of a new
control tower overlooking the entire airport be accelerated!
