1980-12 Supporting The Use Of The Kodiak Intermediate Care Facility.A RESOIIJPION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF TEE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH SUPPORTING THE USE OF THE KODIAK DTPERIEDIATE CARE FACILITY. Wh.REAS, it has cane to the attention of the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly of the Kodiak Island Borough that there are beds available at the Intermediate Care Facility for Alaskan Pioneers' in need of protected residential care or intermediate care; and W1:EREAS, the State of Alaska by its construction and operation of the Alaska Pioneer Home System has by its action assumed the responsibility for caring for all Elderly Alaskans who meet its eligibility criteria; and jl WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Community does have the facilities to care for their elderly Alaskan Pioneers near their families, friends and familiar en- vironments; but Lacks the necessary funds to administer such a ozc ram; art +.LERFAS, the cost of that care in either protected residential or Intermedi- ate care Would be comparable to the cost for similar care in the existing Alaska Pioneer Hones; and WHEREAS, the demand for Pioneer Hanes is increasing and requiring construc- tion of additional facilities by the State at considerable cost; and WHEREAS, it is the strong feeling and sentiment of the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly that tie Federal, State and Local Goverment of Kodiak Lsi:uxi orough in planning and constructing the Kodiak intermediate Care Facility en- Visioned its maximum utilization for the residents of Kodiak Island as the most humane manner to care for the needs of the elderly and disabled; and Pane on Kodiak Island is not necessary at this time since space is available existing facilities if operating funds were made available; and 'H WHEREAS, the operating funds made available by the State for this purpose Would improve the financial viability of the existing facilities; solution, urge our area legislators and the Governor of the State of Alaska do introduce legislation which will allow the Department of Administration to c'txttract with the Kodiak Island Borough Hospital for mt!der the existing Pioneer Hate guidelines. KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 80- 12 -R WHEREAS, it is belief of the Assembly that the construction of a Pioneer NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly by the care of elderly Pioneers I '1 1 ' ATTEST: AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that at such time that the legislation comes up for public hearing that the Assembly request a teleconference so that the residents of Kodiak may comment on the matter.
