RESOLUTION NUMBER 79 -55 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING THE RESULTS OF THE OCTOBER 2, 1979 GENERAL
ELECTION.
WHEREAS, Pursuant to Law, the Kodiak Island Borough
ii held a General Municipal Election in the Borough on Tuesday, the
)2nd day of October, 1979, at which time candidates for the
l offices to be filled were voted on:
One (1) Borough Mayor for a two -year term; Two (2)
:Borough Assemblymen for three -year terms; One (1) Borough Assembly -
i man for an unexpired term of two - years; Two (2) School Board Members
for three -year terms; Two (2) Service District Advisory Board
Members for three -year terms; Two (2) Service District Advisory
[ Board Members for two -year terms; and One (1) Service District
Advisory Board Member for a one -year term, and,
WHEREAS, the returns of said election have been delivered
to and canvassed by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly,
" NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly:
Section 1: That the Assembly finds and hereby ratifies
and declares the results of the General Municipal Election held
within the Kodiak Island Borough on Tuesday, October 2, 1979 to be
as follows:
THAT for the position of Borough Mayor for a two -year
term the following votes were cast:
THAT BETTY J. WALLIN received 989 votes; SANDRA
KAVANAUGH received 346 votes; BRENT (RED) MACKIE received
117 votes; Write -in votes were received for Alan Beardsley
(17), Dan Ogg (1), Donene Tweten (1), Donald Duck (1), Sharon
Theis (1), Charles Kurpinski (1);
Therefore, it is hereby declared that BETTY J. WALLIN has been
selected.
THAT for the position of Assemblymen for three -year
erms the following votes were cast:
THAT PATRICK H. CANNON, JR. received 483 votes; JANET
EITMAN received 340 votes; JOHN J. EUFEMIO received 390 ,

votes; DELL JACKSON received 212 votes; ANN M. MOEN received
359 votes, WILLIAM G. WILLIAMS received 365 votes; R. DAVID
HERRNSTEEN received 625 votes; Write -in votes were received for
Jim Todd (1); Larry Amox (1); Alan Beardsley (1); Noreen Thompson
(1);
Therefore, it is hereby declared that R. DAVID HERRNSTEEN
has been elected for one of the three -year seats and that none of
the other candidates received in excess of forty percent (40 %) of
o the votes cast for his respective office as required by Section
29.28.040 of the Alaska Statutes, Municipal Code. Therefore a
,run-off election shall be held within the Kodiak Island Borough
for the position
of three -year Assemblyman on October 23, 1979
'sand notice of the run -off election shall be published at least
'five (5) days before that date, and at the election the person
receiving the majority of the votes for that office shall be
declared to be elected.
THAT for the position of Assemblyman for a two -year
unexpired term the following votes were cast:
THAT LEONARD "PAT" BRIGGS received 136 votes; MARILYN
MCKINNON received 354 votes; PHILLIP C. ANDERSON received 701
votes; DAVID W. THOMPSON received 173 votes; Write -in votes were
received for Charles Davidson (1); Dell Jackson (1); Larry Amox(1);
Kirby Sapp (1); Daniel Boone Reed (1);

THAT for the positions of School Board Members two for
three -year terms, the following votes were cast:
THAT JOAN JOHNSON received 1,047 votes; DAVID CROWE
received 3,ni6 votes; Write -in votes were received for Wilton
'White (1); Alan Beardsley (1); Ernest Thompson (1); Sid Omlid (1);
lIrene Ferris (1); Dr. Halter (2); Dr. Eufemio (3); Frolin Putman

Therefore, it is hereby declared that JOAN JOHNSON and DAVID CROWE
have been elected.
THAT for the positions of Service District Advisory
Board Members for the three -year terms the following votes were
cast:
THAT HARRY LUND received 52 votes; JAMES COBIS
received 67 votes; Write -in votes were received for Fred Greer
(1); John Haley (1); Vince Smith (1); Lewis Garrett (1);
Therefore, it is hereby declared that HARRY LUND and JAMES COBIS
were elected.
THAT for the positions of Service District Advisory
Board Members for two -year terms the following votes were cast:
THAT GEORGE E. WALLIN received 27 votes; GLENN E.
MATHIS received 50 votes; D. W. GEDDES received 55 votes;
Write -in votes were received for Bill Williams (1);
Therefore, it is hereby declared that GLENN E. MATHIS and D. W.
GEDDES were elected.
THAT for the position of Service District Advisory Board
Member for the one -year term the following votes were cast:
THAT Write -in votes were received for James Cobis (2);
Gene Pherson (3); Lewis Garrett (5); Fred Herring (1); Glenn Mathis
1(11);. George Wallin (2); Harry Lund (2); Ed Gondek (5); Fred P.
