A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
REQUESTING OILTDEVELOPMENTOIN STRAIT

PROPOSED LEASE SALE MO. 60„
UNTIL AFTER 1985.
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Outer Continental
Shelf Advisory Council has reviewed the terms and conditions sur-
rounding the proposed Outer Continental Shelf Lease Sale No. 60
involving the Shelikof Strait north of Kodiak Island Borough, and,
WHEREAS, the Outer Continental Shelf Advisory Council
conveys the view that in the very long range fisheries will be
Il the economic mainstay of the Kodiak Island Borough, and that the
S helikof Strait is one of the major contributors to the Kodiak

' economy, and,
WHEREAS, the existence of a bottomfish sanctuary in

, Shelikof Strait will provide the backbone for the development of
lithe Kodiak Island Borough bottomfish industry, and that the devel-
pmental status of the bottomfish fishery could suffer from the
!Competitive and environmental effects of oil industry developments,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island
B orough Assembly does hereby solicit the appropriate actions of the
U. S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management, in removing
he Shelikof Strait from consideration for outer continental shelf
it development as part of the O.C.S. Lease Sale No. 60 with the
xclusion of all submerged lands in the Shelikof Strait south of
58 north latitude, until after 1985.
