A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH SUPPORTING THE
LAND EXCHANGE PROPOSAL OF THE KONIAG REGIONAL NATIVE CORPORATION
FOR LANDS ON AFOGNAK ISLAND IN EXCHANGE FOR LANDS PRESENTLY SELECTED
ON THE ALASKA PENINSULA.
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly has had an
opportunity to review the land exchange proposal prepared by the
Koniag Regional Native Corporation for Lands on Afognak Island in
exchange for lands on the Alaska Peninsula, and,
WHEREAS, representatives of the Borough, the Koniag
Corporation, the Ouzinkie Corporation and the Lesnoi Corporation
through negotiations have reached agreement on the common benefits
to be gained by all of the parties named in the Koniag proposal, arid,
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough finds that the pro-
posed exchange of land outlined in the Koniag proposal best serves
the interest of all of the residents of the Borough.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Kodiak Island
Borough favors the Alaska Peninsula - Afognak Land Exchange, as well
as the exchange of Monashka Watershed (Ouzinkie Selection) for
'substitute lands on Afognak Island, provided any Koniag or native
village land deficiency is absorbed by Koniag and the native
villages without further impact on the selection of lands by the
i Kodiak Island Borough within the boundaries of the Kodiak Island
Borough.
