WHEREAS, the Chiniak Tracking Station facilities under
the management of the Koniag Regional Corporation has been
selected as the site of a proposed Job Corps Center for the
State of Alaska. And,
WHEREAS, the facilities on the Chiniak site are
uniquely capable of supporting the type of education and
training program contemplated by the Job Corps Center activites,
and,
WHEREAS, the use of the facility as a Job Corps Center
would provide an opportunity for approximately three hundred
(300) Alaska youths to receive special education and training in
a variety of job skills that would enhance their employability
and would assist them in becoming increasingly productive citizens
of the Alaskan community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly recognizes the human resource goals made possible
through the location of a Job Corps Center at the Chiniak site
and do hereby endorse the location and program as being in the
interest of the youth of Alaska.
