A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
ENDORSING A PROPOSAL FOR THE INCLUSION OF AKHIOK, LARSEN BAY,
AND OUZINKIE IN THE 1978 RURAL SCHOOL BOND ISSUE.
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough School District has
initiated small high school programs in the Kodiak Island villages
to carry out necessary and desirable educational programs for
secondary students in small rural communities; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak small rural high school project
initiated using Title IV -C grant funds in 1976 -77 has been evalu-
ated by District personnel and the School Board; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Education granted the Title
IV -C funds with the intention that the program developed could
also be used by other districts within the State to initiate and
analyze small high school programs; and
WHEREAS, positive results of the study and program have
resulted in a recommendation by the Kodiak Island Borough School
District Board to propose the inclusion of the villages of
Akhiok, Larsen Bay and Ouzinkie, Alaska, in the 1978 Alaska State
Rural School Bond Issue for the purpose of providing facilities
needed to implement the provisions of program recommendations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly gives notice to the State of Alaska, the Office
of the Governor, Legislative Representatives and the Department
of Education the Assembly's endorsement and support of the small
high schools program for the inclusion of the villages of Akhiok,
Larsen Bay and Ouzinkie in the 1978 Alaska State Rural School Bond
Issue.
