1978-12 Appropriations And Program Allocations To Maintain The Anton Larsen Road From The Coast Guard Support Center To Anton Larsen BayA RESOLUTION BY THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY RE-
QUESTING THE STATE LEGISLATURE, THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF
ALASKA, AND THE COMMISSIONER OF TRANSPORTATION TO MAKE NECESSARY
APPROPRIATIONS AND PROGRAM ALLOCATIONS TO MAINTAIN THE ANTON
LARSEN ROAD FROM THE COAST GUARD SUPPORT CENTER TO ANTON LARSEN
BAY FOR ALL - WEATHER TRAVEL.
WHEREAS, residents of Kodiak Island Borough have repeatedly
requested that the Anton Larsen Road from the Coast Guard Support
Center to Anton Larsen Bay on Kodiak Island be maintained as an
all -year, all- weather route; and
WHEREAS, residents of the road, Anton Larsen Bay and Port
Lions, are greatly inconvenienced by the lack of road service
during the winter months, and further, many Kodiak vessels use
Anton Larsen Bay as safe harborage during extreme weather at all
seasons; and
WHEREAS, an expanding need exists for all- weather road ser-
vice to ice -free water at Anton Larsen Bay to meet the needs of
Kodiak Island Borough residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly requests that the Alaska State Legislature, the Office
of the Governor and the Commissioner of Transportation appropriate
and program sufficient funds to maintain and extend the Anton
Larsen Road from the Coast Guard Support Center to Anton Larsen
Bay ice -free waters as an all -year, all- season segment of the
State Highway System.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Commissioner of Transportatio
be directed to take immediate action to implement all- weather
maintenance of the roadway immediately and until such time as
further funds are made available for improvements and extension
of the roadway to ice -free waters.
