RESOLUTION NUMBER 73 -23 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH ESTABLISHING THE BOROUGH'S POSITION ON THE LOCATION OF
A PROPOSED LUMBER MILL.
WHEREAS, it now appears that the timber will be
harvested and that the Lumber Company now proposes that the
timber will be processed in another area, and
WHEREAS, the processing of the timber in any other
area than Kodiak would mean that the community of Kodiak and
the rest of the Borough would be deprived of any development
that might arise from this industry, and
WHEREAS, the Borough strongly feels that resources
taken from the area should be processed within the Borough,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Assembly
of the Kodiak Island Borough wishes to go on record as opposing
the placement of a mill in an area other than the one in which
a resource is taken, further should the timber be cut on
Afognak under the present sale agreement, the Borough will assist
the contractor in securing a mill site within the Borough.
