1972-36 Urging The Continuation Of The Use Of Ground Control Approach At The Kodiak Airport.1 "1 1 ; KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NUMBER 72 -36 -R ISLAND BOROUGH RURGINGITTHE USE OF THE GROUND CONTROL APPROACH AT THE KODIAK AIRPORT WHEREAS, the U. S. Coast Guard has taken over the U. S. Naval Station at Kodiak, and the State of Alaska has taken over the operation of the airfield, and the Federal Aviation Administration has taken over the control tower at the airport, and WHEREAS, the Federal Aviation Administration only !I has facilities for operating an instrument landing system, and does not plan on operating the Ground Control Approach system currently in use at Kodiak, and WHEREAS, because of the often adverse weather conditions at Kodiak due to rain and fog, the ceiling is often below minimum requirements for aircraft operation, and WHEREAS, because of the location of Kodiak and the fact that it is the hub of the largest fishery in the North '' Pacific, air commerce is of vital importance to the econcry ort the community, and the U. S. Coast Guard operation and missc:r, I is indispensable to the continuation of the efforts of the fishing fleet in Kodiak, and WHEREAS, the United States Navy has the capabillt to continue the operation of the GCA and to train Coast Guard personnel for this function, and the continued availability if Ground Controlled Approach radar at Kodiak is not only desired by the U. S. Coast Guard, but would assure all of our aircraft, military and civilian alike, that the Kodiak Airport offered the optimum services and facilities necessary to meet the safety requirements. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Borough Page One, RESOLUTION NO. 72 -36 -R 1 • 1 , , ' ATTEST: Assembly of the Kodiak Island Borough that the U. S. Navy be urged to supply people necessary to train personnel of the U. S. Coast Guard, and that the U. S. Coast Guard be urged to assign personnel for the purpose of such training, to assume the responsibilities of the continued operation of the Ground Controlled Approach Radar System at Kodiak, and that copies of this Resolution be sent to the HON.
