1970-17 Opposing The Afognak Timber Cut.A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
OPPOSING THE AFOGNAK TIMER CUT
The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly and its individual
members having converred with members of the U. S. Forest Service,
U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Alaska Department of Fish and
Game and other interested parties concerning the proposed timber
cut on Afognak Island and as a result of such discussions having
come to the conclusions that the proposed timber cut on Afognak
Island is not in the best interest of proper management of our
natural resources, the continued preservation of the natural
habitat of the deer, elk, bear and other wildlife population of
Afognak Island and the preservation of our salmon spawning
streams on said island and further having come to the conclusion
that the timber cut as now proposed does not make adequate provi-
sion for the protection of the salmon spawning areas on said
island
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly that this body go on record as being totally
opposed to the contemplated timber cut on Afognak Island.
