1996-05 Amending Personnel Manual re 10 Hour Work DayKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ORDINANCE NO. 96 -05 Introduced by: Mayor Selby Requested by: Mayor Selby Drafted by: Mayor Selby Introduced: 06/06/96 Public Hearing: 06/20/96 Adopted: 06/20/96 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PERSONNEL RULES AND REGULATIONS, 1994 EDITION, TO REFLECT CHANGES IN SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL AND TEN -HOUR WORK DAY LANGUAGE WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly, in keeping with the personnel policy, recognizes that personnel rules and regulations must be amended from time to time in order to provide for necessary updated information and clarification; and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough and its employees are committed to the principle of equal employment opportunity in all employment practices; and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Code of Personnel Rules and Regulations was completely revised in September 1994; and WHEREAS, some changes to the personnel policy were subsequently negotiated in the union negotiation process; and WHEREAS, the Personnel Advisory Board reviewed and recommended the Kodiak Island Borough Code of Personnel Rules and Regulations, 1994 Edition, be amended; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH THAT: Section 1: This ordinance is of a general and permanent nature and shall become a part of the Kodiak Island Borough Personnel Rules and Regulations. Section 2: Title 2, Chapter 2.12 is amended by making the following changes in the Personnel Rules and Regulations, 1994 Edition, identified in Section 2.12.010. A. Amend Section 410 Shift Differential as follows: 410 SHIFT DIFFFRFNTIAL An employee who is assigned to a swing shift (defined as the hours from 4:00 p.m. to midnight) shall receive four (4) percent premium pay in addition to his /her regular salary for the period served on swing shift. An employee who is assigned to a graveyard shift (defined as the hours from midnight until 8:00 a.m.) shall receive six (6) percent premium pay in addition to his /her regular salary for the period served on graveyard shift. If an employee sporadically works a swing shift as well as normal shifts, then sick leave and annual leave will be paid at the employee's regular salary. B. Amend Section 602 Ten Hour Work Day as follows: 602 TFN HOUR WORK DAY Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska By mutual agreement of the department head and the employee involved, a four (4) day work week may be established consisting of four (4) ten hour shifts at the employee's straight time rate of pay. The employee may opt out of this work schedule by giving a thirty (30) calendar days notice to the department head. This decision may require all employees involved to revert to a five (5) day work week in order to properly staff the office to deal with the public.
