1993-47 Revising Kodiak Island Borough Code 15.12 Plumbing Code to Reincorporate and Exception for Heat Exchangers.Introduced by: Requested by: Drafted by: Introduced: Public Hearing: Adopted: n Mayor Selby Building Official Community Development Department 10/07/93 10/21/93 10/21/93 KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ORDINANCE NO. 93 -47 AN ORDINANCE REVISING KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH CODE CHAPTER 15.12 PLUMBING CODE TO REINCORPORATE AN EXCEPTION FOR HEAT EXCHANGERS WHEREAS, prior to 1992 the Kodiak Island Borough plumbing code contained an exception for heat exchangers; and WHEREAS, during the 1992 code revision process, this exception was deleted from the plumbing code; and WHEREAS, the building official and the Joint Building Review Committee recommends that this exception be reincorporated into the plumbing code; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH THAT: Section 1: Section 2: Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska This ordinance is of a general and permanent nature and shall become a part of the Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances. Kodiak Island Borough Code Section 15.12.080 is hereby amended to add: 15.12.080 Code -- exception. Subsection 1003 (k) of the 1991 Uniform Plumbing Code is amended to read: (k) Heat Exchangers and other assemblies or methods of construction using potable water shall be of listed construction and materials. Potable water shall be separated from the fluids nr gate°. b separate walls, with a positive, vented leak detection path. � The r sections in contact with potable water shall be of material and weights suitable for potable water as set forth in this chapter. Ordinance No. 93 -47 Page 1 of 2 ATTEST: Exception: Heat exchangers may be of single wall construction provided that (1) the heat transfer medium is water or other practically non -toxic fluid having a toxicity rating or class of 1, as listed in Clinical Toxicoloav of Chemical Products. 5th Edition (2) the pressure of the heat transfer medium is limited to a maximum of 30 psig by an approved safety or relief valve; and (3) the heat exchanger is prominently and permanently labeled with instructions concerning items (1) and (2) above.
