AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO EXAMINATIONS
FOR EQUINE INFECTIOUS ANEMIA

WHEREAS, Kodiak Island Borough Code Section 6.04.020 forbids any person from
keeping an animal which is infected with a contagious disease; and
WHEREAS, Equine Infectious Anemia has been recognized as a serious and very
contagious health hazard for equine; and
WHEREAS, Allowing the transportation of animals infected with Equine Infectious
Anemia into the Kodiak island Borough would pose a grave risk to the
animals maintained by the citizenry;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH:

This ordinance is of a permanent and general nature and shall become a
part of the Code of Ordinances.
KIBC 6.04 is amended by adding a section to read as follows:
6.04.025 Eauine Infectious Anemia. No person, including any common
carrier, may transport equine into the boundaries of the Kodiak Island
Borough unless the equine has tested negatively for Equine Infectious
Anemia within the previous six (6) months.
