AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE RELATING TO EXAMINATIONS
FOR EQUINE INFECTIOUS ANEMIA
WHEREAS, Kodiak Island Borough Code Section 6.04.020 forbids any person from
keeping an animal which is infected with a contagious disease; and
WHEREAS, Equine Infectious Anemia has been recognized as a serious and very
contagious health hazard for horses; and
WHEREAS, Allowing the transportation of animals infected with Equine Infectious
Anemia into the Kodiak island Borough would pose a grave risk to the
animals maintained by the citizenry;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH:
Section 1: This ordinance is of a permanent and general nature and shall become a
part of the Code of Ordinances.
Section 2: KIBC 6.04 is amended by adding a section to read as follows:
6.04.025 Equine Infectious Anemia. No person, including any common
carrier, may transport a horse into the boundaries of the Kodiak Island
Borough unless the horse has tested negatively for Equine Infectious
Anemia within the previous six (6) months.
