AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PERSONNEL RULES AND REGULATIONS
BY ADDING SECTION 613, SPECIAL PROJECTS APPOINTMENTS
WHEREAS, KIB Personnel Rules and Regulations Section 609 allow
for the hiring of temporary employees for short -term periods, not to exceed
six months, and
WHEREAS, from time to time projects arise that have a greater
life -span than six months, and
WHEREAS, it would not be good management practice to replace a
trained temporary employee at the end of six months with a new, untrained
employee;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly that:
Section 1. This ordinance is of a general and permanent nature
and shall become a part of the KIB Personnel Rules and Regulations, adopted
November 7, 1977.
Section 2. Chapter 6, Selection, is amended by adding a new
section to read:
613 SPECIAL PROJECT APPOINTMENTS
Special project appointments are appointments made for unique
circumstances in which it is determined that a position is required
in excess of six months. Employee(s) designated in this position
shall be entitled to all benefits provided provided regular
employees, shall serve a 90 day probationary period and shall be
subject to the same rules and regulations as regular full time
employees. If a temporary employee is subsequently appointed to
this position, time served as a temporary employee shall be counted
toward the employee's three -month probationary period. This
position shall remain until such time as the project(s) are ended.
