AN PERSONNEL POLICIES AND KODIAK AS ASSEMBLY
RESIIGNATIONS
WHEREAS, by a vote of the electorate on 2 October 1984 and as
ratified by the Assembly of the Kodiak Island Borough by Resolution 84- 111 -R,
the form of government of Kodiak.Island Borough is to be changed rom a
Manager - Assembly to a strong Mayor - Assembly government, and

To resign in ( standing, an employee must give written notice to

requir ments may be waived by department heads where adequate
prov.sions can be made in a shorter period of time, or extenuating
circumstances exist.

the employee for his records, and to personnel files. To be valid,
the resignation must include reason for leaving Borough service.
Failure to comply with these requirements shall result in the

cancellation of any normal separation benefits and may become cause
for rejection of rehire at a future time.
1001.1 RESIGNATIONS (Protocol)
Upon a change of the encumbent in the office of Mayor, under normal
protocol, the mayor may elect to ask for the resignations of all
department heads upon taking office. If the mayor so elects to
exercise this right of office, he (she) will accept or rejeg't these
resignations in a reasonable time period, not to exceed t o weeks
after taking office. Termination of employment shall • one month
after date of acceptance. Department heads whose re- ignations are
accepted shall be compensated as outlined in Secti•n 1004.1.
1004 DISMISSAL NOTICE AND SEVERANCE PAY
- Employees -subjeet to force - reduction layoff o• dismissed without
prejudice shall be given ten (10) days' not ce and severance pay not
to exceed ten (10) days.

1004.1 SEVERANCE PAY DEPARTMENT HEADS
Any department head whose resignat on is accepted by the incoming
mayor by the change in the encu •ent of that office, and not throw
cause, shall be entitled to r neration of two months' salary.
This severance pay shall be in addition to accrued leave or other
benefits due and payable pon separation.
AND BE IT FURTHER ORDA 'ED that this ordinance take effect upon the
Monday following the certifica on of the regular election of October 1985.
