The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT8rPF) and its consultant HDR Alaska, Inc., have prepared a document titled "Office Study, Technical Memorandum #2" which recommends alter- natives to resolve existing deficiencies and accommo- date future demand. We encotuage anyone interested in receiving a copy to contact Mark Maya, DOT& P F Project Manager. This document eventually will become Chapters 4 hrough 6 of the Kodiak Airport Master Plan. T~hnical Memorandum #1," which will become Chapters 1 through 3 in the Airport Master Plan, ova-e prepared last summer. This document presented a stunm~~u•y of public comment, a background study, and an activity forecast. C Identifying Problems The Kodiak Airport needs to provide for safe and effi- cient aviation. Based on input received during public meetings and the findings of a demand capacity analy- sis prepared in Chapter 4, the following are key issues that need to be resolved. • Congested apron space during peak periods of operations. • Sub-standard rurnvay safety areas and taxiway separation. • Poor pavement conditions on terminal apron. • Lack of consolidated general aviation facilities. • Long-term parking needs are not being addressed. property. Finding Answers The Alaska Department, of Transportation and Public Facilities and HDR have listened to your concerns about the Kodiak airport and have developed recom- mendations for solving the airport's problems and bringing it into compliance with Federal Aviation Administration standards. endations, two alternatives Alternative 1-North General Aviation Apron ~-- ~. a ~ ~ ~~ '''~,,,~ a o ~ ~ -_~ 1 0 ~_~- ~~ ~Q o ~, ~~ o - ,~ ! ___ ~ o 'a ~ ~ ~i __ r~ o __ ~~ L ~ a~ ~J ~ .~ a r~ _ - a J J iii ~'~^~_J n ~~ ~ __. _ ---\ J ( ~ r, '~ Legend ~~ Upgrade Existing Road Property Line _ Lease Lots _ New Parking Apron Expansion New GA Positions New Taxiway/Taxilane Future Lease Lots (if needed) •••••• Pedestrian Crosswalk ® Relocated Taxiway D Alternative 2 -South General Aviation Apron ~ . r- Legend ~~ Upgrade Existing Road Property Line _ Lease Lots _ New Parking Apron Expansion ® New GA Positions New Taxiway/Taxilane Future Lease Lots (if needed) ® New Helipad G Alternative 1-North General Aviation Apron Alternative 1 provides expanded terminal apron space for commercial and air taxi operators. In addition it recommends the development of a dedicated general aviation apron north of rLUmvay 7-25 to accom- modate future GA demand. Existing vacancies (Mark Air and Peninsula Air) on the terminal apronwould be utilized. Apron B would be expanded to the east, towards the end of the planning period accommo- d~ting future air carrier, air taxi, and cargo demand on that apron. The existing primary airport access road would be extended to provide access to the proposed future apron and parking developments. Additional long-term and short-term parking space would be created to match the expanded air carrier and air cargo apron space. Alternative 1 reconstructs taxiways to accommodate recommended separation between runways and taxiways. • Constructs a newgeneral aviation apron north of runway 7-25. • Increases runway to taxiway centerline separation to meet standards. • Paves and lights all new taxiways. • Upgrades airport access roads. • Expands long- and short-term parking. • Expands terminal apron. • l~~iintains existing runway dimensions. ~a ~ _-___-. ~ Alternative 2 -South General Aviation Apron ' _,s. ~v+e 2 provides elements of development similar to Alternative 1 but reconfigures certain key ' ' Features. The existing primary airport access road would be extended to provide access to the proposed I apron expansion. Additional public parking space would be created in the current ~ aircraft service parking area which would be shifted slightly north west. An additional apron ramp would be constructed from the terminal apron to runway 7-25. • Constructs a newgeneral aviation apron south of runway 7-25. • Constructs new taxiway from terminal apron. • Paves and lights all new taxiways. • Upgrades airport access reads. • Expands long- and short-term parking. • Maintains existing runway dimensions. l..11....llll"•"'1II"1..t1....11..1'1'Il~~~~ill~~~l~l~~l'11 S 196E xd `~IL!Po?i peon ~~~ II!W 0[L aaiiiwwo~,C~os!~~pb uoda!~ yauaed~n}I U1Ld :O,j, ~ 5 r_oaz _ '> = --. _... ._ ~ _ ~ ~ ~ ~ Chi-- l~.
