A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ACCEPTING A
GRANT FROM THE ALASKA DIVISION OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $91,785.00 FOR THE PURCHASE AND INSTALLATION
OF THREE TSUNAMI WARNING SIRENS
WHEREAS, the tsunami warning sirens located in the Kodiak Island Borough, along the Kodiak
road system, have become obsolete and in need of replacement; and
WHEREAS, Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Hazard
Mitigation Program staff informed Borough staff of grant funding available through the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to replace warning sirens; and
WHEREAS, Borough Staff submitted a request through the Alaska Division of Homeland
Security and Emergency Management to participate in the NOAA grant program to replace local
warning sirens; and
WHEREAS, NOAA approved funding for the purchase and installation of three warning sirens,
in the amount of $91,785 ($30,595 per siren, to include the equipment, shipping, installation, and
training); and
WHEREAS, KIBC 3.25.040 B provides that "Authorization for expenditure of grant funds which
are limited by the grantor to a specific use or category of use may be authorized by resolution of
the assembly."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that:
The Kodiak Island Borough accepts a grant from the Alaska Division of Homeland Security and
Emergency Management in the amount of $91,785 for the purchase and installation of three
tsunami warning sirens.
