Request preliminary approval of the vacation of a 5 foot wide portion of a 10 foot wide utility
easement the runs along the inside of the rear lot line of Lot 5, Block 7, Aleutian Homes
Subdivision (KIBC 16.40 and 16.60).
The Kodiak Island Borough Community Development Department received the enclosed plat for review
and action by the Kodiak Island Borough Planning and Zoning Commission at their July 18, 2018 regular
meeting. This meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Assembly Chambers, 710 Mill Bay Road, Kodiak,
Alaska. We would appreciate your review and comment regarding this proposed plat.
The week prior to the regular meeting on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Kodiak Island
Borough Conference Room, the Commission will hold a work session to review the packet material for
the regular meeting. Therefore, we will need to receive your comments no later than 5:00 p.m. on
Tuesday, July 3, 2018 in order for your comments, suggestions, or requests to be considered by staff and
discussed at the packet review work session.
If we do not receive a written response from you by July 3rd, we will conclude that you have no requests

Public Works has looked at this property and to the best of our knowledge the sewer line at 412
Thorsheim Street crosses through the lot at 414 Thorsheim Street, approximately between the
house and the shed. We believe the sewer at 414 Thorsheim Street ties into this line, which then
enters the sewer main behind 416 Thorsheim Street and 410 and 412 Willow Street. This line
flows down hill to an existing manhole behind 415 and 417 Cedar Street. Without a sewer
easement being granted to 412 Thorsheim Street by 414 Thorsheim Street for the sewer line that
crosses 414 Thorsheim Street, the City strongly opposes the proposed vacation of Case S 18-004.
