MADDEN: Overflights had low visibility. Mousse has disappeared again.
Russian skimmer is setting off Wide Bay, and they can't find mousse. There is
mousse and sheen between Cape Douglas and Augustine Island and Mainland --very
small. We haven't seen oil at Chignik, but it has been reported that it is in
a water column below the tide. Boom and boats are there. Mr. Clean III should
be there any time now. Exxon is looking at sending a representative to
Chignik.
LARRY: Unconfirmed report from Penn Air mail plane of seeing oil in Chignik
Harbor. Also a report from the vessel Lynn J.
FISH & WILDLIFE: Two choppers are going to Chignik tomorrow. Sixty or
seventy dead birds logged in since last night. Two dead otters so far. The
Ten Bears saw a female with a pup in distress. The pup died.
DEC: It appears that the leading edge of the oil is headed south toward the
parks. What efforts can be made to assess the area? (Asked Lt. Madden to
deploy boom in high resource area). Fred has looked at it and its priorities.
DEC has an entourage of dignitaries coming in tomorrow that want to observe and
meet the Council.
An Exxon Shoreline Advisory Team contacted them today. Discussion on the phone
call.
Discussion on May 1 deadline for Exxon's cleanup plan. Need to see how all of
it interfaces.
BRUCE ERICKSON: Need to talk with DEC r2gpx4ing,quick passive cleanup.
Chiniak tar balls turned out to be .,bunk ou se_4k We have actually not
received any tar balls that are North Slope crude.

Explained testing of tar balls.
Are training people for seafood inspection. Should be enough people to do
sampling during the salmon season. We still have lab problems.
SELBY to MADDEN: Isn't the Coast Guard looking for a mobile lab.

MADDEN: We are trying to locate something that would work.
SELBY: What would be ideal would be to test a fish hold to determine if fish
is good.
DEC: It would be far more effective to inspect hold, scum lines, etc. Testing
the water is the best way to do it.
SELBY to NICHOLSON: Have you heard anything back on nets?
NICHOLSON: We have secured two vessels with herring seines on board for
replacement. I don't know what backup is for salmon season.
SELBY to BRODIE: Will you please work on that?
