Illegal Occupation of School Bus
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Major:
September 23. 1994
Recently we received a complaint regarding people living in a school bus on
your property at 1418 Mission Road. A site visit on September 22, 1994
confirmed that a yellow school bus was outfitted as living quarters. At the
same time, an occupancy and zoning violation notice was posted on the side
of the bus.
As property owner, you should be aware that a zoning compliance permit
(Kodiak Island Borough Code Section 17.03.060) and a building permit (KIBC
Section 15.04.030) must be obtained before a structure, on wheels or
otherwise, can be moved onto any property, and a certificate of occupancy
(KIBC Section 15.04.130) must be issued before it can be occupied as a
dwelling anywhere other than a designated recreation vehicle park or
campground.
Additionally, Borough Code Chapters 15.20 and 17.26 addressing mobile
homes set minimum certification standards which must be met related to
height, width, ingress and egress, light and ventilation, anchoring systems,
skirting, and connection to required utilities. . The bus on your property does
not comply withlthese standards.

Although the bus may have been placed and occupied on the property
without either your Knowledge or permission, it is your responsibility as
property owner to see to the discontinuation of the violations through
removal of the bus. If this cannot be done by September 30th, 1994, formal
enforcement action seeking compliance will be initiated.
