RE: Permit for Release of Family Pet Remains for Disposal
I.
This memorandum is issued as a permit to allow the release of family pet remains
belonging to Mike M McGuire, whose address is PO Box 1832, Kodiak, AK 99615.
Staff has investigated the circumstances of the pet's death and determined it
appropriate to release the remains of the family pet to the owners for disposal on their
property, in accordance with the provisions of KIBC 6.04.200. These provisions
require the burial location to be at lease 100 feet from any dwelling, water body or water
well.
The authorized site for burial is:37834 Chiniak Hwy; aka Lot 10 Brookers Lagoon.
Because the animal was euthanized, it may pose a threat to any other animals that may
disturb the burial site. As a further condition of this permit, staff requires the owners to
ensure that the family pet remains are buried at least four (4) feet deep, as referenced
in City of Kodiak Code 7.04.140.
In the alternative, the owners may also dispose of the family pet remains by cremation
at any facility that is legally authorized to provide this service.
